Technical Parameters

IV140 runs at 135–145 g I₂/100g off our fractional distillation line in Dalian. The higher unsaturation compared to IV120 makes it more reactive in systems where you need faster cure or higher cross-link density - but it also means a bit more attention to oxidation storage if you're not moving stock quickly.

Coating & Resin Work

We see most IV140 going into alkyd resins where formulators need faster drying or higher flexibility without adding plasticizers. The linoleic/oleic split in this grade runs around 55–60% linoleic, which pushes cure response noticeably compared to IV120. If you're working toward lower VOC and need the resin to cross-link reliably at lower bake temperatures, IV140 is usually the grade we steer people to.

One note on film formation: the higher IV does mean the resin is a bit more sensitive to early-water-exposure in exterior coatings. For concrete substrates or metal primers that sit uncovered for a while, we usually recommend a blended approach - IV140 for the body, something lower-IV for the topcoat. Not because IV140 can't do it, but because the formulation window is narrower.

Mining Applications

For flotation, IV140's higher unsaturation gives better collector performance on certain oxide minerals - titanium ore and zircon in particular. The mechanism is straightforward: the unsaturated sites give stronger surface bonding to the mineral particle, which improves separation efficiency. We've had feedback from several operations that recovery rates improve noticeably switching from a generic C18 fatty acid to a controlled-IV grade like this one.

Biodegradability is genuinely better than petroleum-based collectors, though we'd encourage you to run your own site water testing rather than taking a lab claim at face value. Every ore body and process water chemistry is different.

Oilfield Services

IV140 is used in oil-based drilling fluid emulsifiers where you need the emulsifier package to hold together at higher downhole temperatures. The higher unsaturation helps with emulsion stability up to around 200–220°C depending on the overall fluid system - beyond that, you're usually looking at synthetic alternatives rather than vegetable-based fatty acids.

We don't claim it handles "extreme" conditions - if your well profile is pushing 240°C sustained, let's talk specifically about your fluid chemistry before committing. The fatty acid is only one part of the emulsifier package, and the compatibility with your other additives matters more than the IV number alone.

Quality & Supply

Every batch gets tested for iodine value, acid value (typically 195–210 mg KOH/g), moisture (<0.3%), and color. We adjust the distillation cut daily based on crude feedstock variation, so the IV stays in window without you needing to re-approve the spec after the first trial.

Packaging follows standard industrial options: 180kg drums, IBC totes, or bulk tanker for sustained-volume customers. Export loads run 16–18 MT per 20ft FCL depending on packaging. Lead time is typically 10–15 days after order confirmation.

Compliance Notes

It's a bio-based material derived from non-GMO soybean oil. REACH registered, and we can provide confirmation letters for EPA and other regional compliance frameworks on request. The "bio-based" claim is genuinely meaningful here - it's not a blended product with a trace of renewable content.
