Description
Technical Parameters

We produce this grade as a straight distilled soybean fatty acid at our Dalian plant, nothing fancy - just controlled distillation and proper vacuum stripping. It comes off the line as a pale yellow liquid at room temperature, though in winter storage it can partially solidify depending on how far the distillation cut went.

The "light color" people talk about usually lands in the Gardner 3–5 range straight out of distillation. If you need it lighter, we can re-distill or bleach, though that adds cost and most industrial users don't actually need Gardner 1 for what they're doing with it.

Where it actually goes:

Resin people use it when they need the alkyd to have some flexibility without adding plasticizer. The linoleic/oleic split in this general grade runs wherever the crude soybean oil happens to be that month - typically 50–55% linoleic, 30–35% oleic - so if your formulation is sensitive to that variance, this grade might not be the right fit. We can usually steer the distillation to hold a tighter split if you tell us what matters for your process.

For organic synthesis and additive manufacturing, the carbon chain distribution (C16–C18, with some C20 if the distillation wasn't pushed hard) gives predictable reactivity in most saponification and amidation reactions. We've had customers use it for dimer acid feedstock, though if you're doing dimerization, IV120 or IV140 will give you better conversion.

In surfactants and cleaning formulations, the fatty acid works as an intermediate for non-ionic surfactant synthesis - ethoxylation, in particular. The "excellent emulsifying and wetting" claims in typical datasheets are a bit overstated; it emulsifies fine if you formulate around it, but it's not a self-emulsifying material. Detergency is decent in heavy-duty formulations where you want some foam suppression rather than high foam.

It's plant-based, yes - processed from non-GMO soybean oil - and biodegradable in standard OECD tests. We're not going to oversell the "green chemistry" angle: it's an industrial fatty acid, not a specialty bio-material, but if your procurement specs require renewable carbon content, this grade clears that bar without the price premium of dedicated bio-based specialty chemicals.

Moisture off the distillation typically runs 0.2–0.4%, acid value around 195–205 mg KOH/g. We test every batch before release, and if those numbers matter to your process, let us know - we can usually hold a tighter range with a dedicated distillation run, though there's a minimum volume for that.

Packaging is 180kg drums, IBC totes, or bulk tanker if you've got the setup. Lead time is usually 10–15 days after order confirmation, sometimes faster if you're already on contract.

Samples are pulled from current production - 1kg or 5kg - not from a separate sample inventory that may not match what you'd actually get by the ton. Send over your typical specifications and we'll tell you straight whether this general grade is the right fit, or whether you should be looking at a specific IV grade instead.
